Brief
Design and deliver a new hop processing facility with integrated office and staff accommodation, associated car parking, and improved access from the existing farmyard. The scheme required a balance of agricultural functionality with modern workplace standards to support the farm’s operations.
Time Frame
Topographical survey, detailed design, and planning submission formed the initial phase of the project, with building regulations approval secured ahead of construction. The overall programme from design through to delivery was phased over 20 months.
Constraints
The design had to respond to the working farm environment, with careful consideration given to levels, cut and fill requirements, and site drainage. Sustainable drainage solutions (SuDS), foul drainage, and access design were critical elements. Coordination with the steel frame design was required to ensure all building regulation details aligned, covering thermal performance, damp proofing, fire safety, and means of escape.
Outcomes
A purpose-built hop processing facility was designed and approved, complete with office and staff accommodation to support day-to-day operations. The scheme included modern servicing standards, sustainable drainage, and safe, functional site access. The development has provided the farm with an efficient, future-ready facility tailored to its operational needs.
